Passive Income Designing SVGs - Free Programs to Use

by Tanya McCarthy 31 Jul 2019

Photoshop and Illustrator are two big programs most graphic designers use when creating digital designs. You will also hear of people utilizing programs like CorelDraw and other related programs. If you're just starting out you may not have the funds to afford a monthly subscription or the capital to purchase a license for one of the above products. Fret not! There are many design programs out there you can use for free to start your passive income journey.

Photopea

Photopea is an advanced image editor similar to Adobe Photoshop. However, this online program works with both raster and vector images. You can use it for simple things like creating mock ups with smart .psd files, creating graphics, or resizing and saving photos/graphics. A great online tool everyone should have in their arsenal. This programs runs in a web browser.

Inkscape

Inkscape is a program that can run on Windows, Mac OS/X, and Linux computers. You can create a variety of graphics utilizing this program and it is the main choice for most SVG designers that do not want to use an online based editor. While it does have a learning curve, once you get the hang of it, its simplicity and power outweighs the complexity.

Canva

Canva first got its popularity to quickly design images for use in social media. The app is known for people to make graphics quickly and share them on social media platform with ease. For people who are not necessarily graphically inclined this is a great starter program to use.

iPIccy

iPiccy is a web based program that contains many powerful and easy to use editing tools for creating graphic designs. You can pull images from any website or folder on your computer.

Gravit.io

Gravit.io, now known as Gravit Designer, is a full featured vector graphics design program geared towards graphic designers, web designers, and product designers. The program has a powerful set of tools that assist designers in unleashing their true creativity.

Vectr.com

Vectr is another free option that creates vector graphics easily and intuitively. It's a simple but powerful tool you can add to your arsenal of programs to create visually stunning designs.

Vecteezy.com

Vecteezy makes it very easy for users to explore thousands of graphics created by vector artists from all over the world. You can then use their designer tool to edit and manipulate images you find on their website. You can also use their program to create your own designs.

While this list is not all encompassing of web based and free programs you can utilize to create your graphic designs, it's a good start to beginning your passive income journey.

Keep in mind if you are geared towards vinyl cutting machines, you can design for free directly in Silhouette Studio and Cricut Design Space, both provided for free.

Me personally? I use Inkscape and Silhouette Studio. In the next few weeks I will be creating tutorials for people to utilize to start their graphic design journey.
